Phobia is an irrational fear of the something that’s unlikely to cause harm. The word phobias is derived from Greek word ‘phobos’ which means fear or horror. Phobias are type of anxiety disorder. When someone has a phobia, they experience intense fear of a certain object or situation. Phobia are different than fears because they causes significant distress. They always try to avoid phobic object or situation.
Phobias can be divided into specific phobias, social phobia, and agoraphobia. Specific phobias include those to certain animals, natural environment situations, blood or injury, and specific situations The most common are fear of spiders, fear of snakes, and fear of heights Specific phobias may be caused by a negative experience with the object or situation in early childhood Social phobia is when a person fears a situation due to worries about others judging them. Agoraphobia is a fear of a situation due to a difficulty or inability to escape.
What are phobias?
·A phobia is an excessive and irrational fear reaction. If you have a phobia, you may experience a deep sense of dread or panic when you encounter the source of your fear. The fear can be of a certain place, situation, or object. Unlike general anxiety disorders, a phobia is usually connected to something specific.

Symptoms of phobias:-

▪︎Fear related to medical treatments or issues :- e.g.- injection etc.
▪︎Fears related to specific situations:- e.g.- flying, driving etc.
▪︎Others than this chocking, loud noises, drowning etc.

Treatment of phobia:- there are various treatments for phobia some of them are discussed below :-
●Exposure therapy
Exposure therapy is the most commonly used therapeutic treatment for phobias. It involves exposure to the source of the fear in a controlled setting. This treatment can decondition people and reduce anxiety.The therapy focuses on identifying and changing negative thoughts, dysfunctional beliefs, and negative reactions to the phobic situation. New CBT techniques use virtual reality technology to expose people to the sources of their phobias safely.
●Medication
●Antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications can help calm emotional and physical reactions to fear. Often, a combination of medication and professional therapy is the most helpful.
